Is there any relation between one's culture and his/her personality
(or value system)? Do you think that you can still have the value
system as same as you have now if you were born and grow in a different time and culture?
Maybe one's age/or gender also affect it more or less. Is it OK to judge other
culture by your own value system?
There are some people who say that it is too pity to eat certain kind of animals
being eaten in some other countries without knowing the long histories of food in those countries.
What do you think about that?
When we Japanese say "internationalization" it often means "westernization".
Is the western culture really something we all should follow?
Each culture must have something valuable in its own way having been created in the long history.
We should not swayed too much by such superficial phenomena but rather
to think what kind of cultural backgrounds are behind them.
Here you can see many different opinions of people from different cultures.
It might be somewhat meaningless to stereotype people according to their physical
location as now we have Internet or some other much advanced media.
For example, even though we all living in Tokyo, each our surrounding must be different.
We could obtain so much information from the world in a second and our life
styles are also very different depending on one's taste or convenience.
However, it is still impossible to get away from some influence of our own
culture. Every experience you had, scenery you saw or food you ate since you
were a child. Every TV programs you see, music you listen to everyday now.
Or even what your parents have been keeping telling you everyday....
Everything surrounding you have been affecting your value system and shaping your character.
Everyone is living in a certain value system however, having known other culture makes it
possible for us to see our own culture somehow more objectively.
I made this page to see how one's cultures affect his/her value system.
I never intend to conclude some stereotypical images of people from
certain cultures. I just want to make sure that we never be able to understand
people without knowing their cultures.
Since I am not an Anthropologist nor Psychologist, I cannot go any further
analogy for my survey. I am happy if you find out something interesting in these many opinions
of people from different cultures by your own ways.
And also I made this page to encourage some Japanese who are still too shy to expose themselves
to other cultures and to co-exist.
I also have seen some foreigners taking an advantage of it.
Both sides should change for better.
